9 ITEMS TO CHECK WHEN YOUR EMPLOYEE RESIGNS

#1: Have a written resignation letter, signed by the employee.
#2: Make sure his resignation's clear, unconditional and unambiguous.
#3: Accept his resignation in writing.
#4: Clarify any issues relating to his notice period.
#5: If you don't want to pay him notice pay in lieu of him working his notice period, make sure you agree to this.
#6: Calculate termination pay. Remember to use his remuneration and not his basic salary.
#7: Check on restraints and confidentiality undertakings.
#8: Take action if you think your employee is breaching restraints and confidentiality undertakings.
#9: Make sure all your employee returns all your company property.


THE ANNUAL EARNINGS THRESHOLD HAS INCREASED

The new earnings threshold as from 1st July 2014 is R205 433.30.

There are five items you have to pay your employee for if he earns below the new threshold. These are:

1. Work outside of ordinary working hours;
2. Overtime;
3. Work on Sundays;
4. Night work; and
5. Work on public holidays.
